Fast forward 8 years and the mage wars are over, the rebellion defeated. Along with his companions, siblings Anselm and Gwen and Wolf Guard Betrand your search leads you to Isamo who is about to sacrifice his son/ daughter but is saved at the cost of Gwen’s life. As a standalone story you play as General Sentenza Noria who has been sent by the queen to kill Isamo Tahar and stop the rebellion. When in the main menu you get a second option on the campaign section that gives you a small opening story near the beginning of the mage wars that explains your character. You play as Tahar, the son/ daughter of the evil sorcerer who started the rebellion, the mage wars, against the crown. Build up your own army and together with your hero’s go and take on your mission or explore the beautiful map and all its hidden treasures. Each area has limited resources so you have to push forward and continue to build those outposts before the enemy armies come to attack. For the RTS side you get to build up small outposts and develop them to recruit your troops. For the RPG part of the game you travel through the different areas as a team of 4 heroes (as you unlock them) fighting enemies and finding loot, a lot of loot in this game. It’s been made as a prequel to all the other games so if you are new to land of Eo you can enjoy the story without feeling left behind. This is the third full game in the series but ninth release. They have polished this cross genre so that it’s not some contrived amalgamation of the two but a symbiotic blend that lends itself to the story and keeps the player involved without stagnating play. The Spellforce series is a mix of role playing (RPG) and real time strategy (RTS). Let’s see how the third official installment of Spellforce plays out. Upon its release this game has been given mixed reviews and in some cases seen plenty of bugs that has seen some unnecessary backlash from gamers and critiques. A clever move by Grimlore Games and THQ Nordic, in my opinion it has worked very well to sell the game and add an established powerful symbol of fantasy games to their own world. Voice actor Doug Cockle takes command of the elite Wolf guard as General Sentenza Noria. What is not to love about this already? Have you not been hooked enough yet? Ok, how about Geralt of Rivia as the cherry on top. This storyline kind of sounds familiar, maybe a clever nod to inspirational games that have come before. A powerful religion bursts forth in the world spouting about the one true god and how magic should not be used unless for the religion, which is good. A deep and rich back story involving the subjugation of mages, wizards, witches and sorcerers. An enchanted world steeped in magical lore with your conventional races of Orcs, Dwarves, Elves, Goblins and Humans. I’m a huge fan of the fantasy genre and Spellforce 3 ticked a fair few boxes. I was caught in Spellforce 3’s web within seconds of watching the cinematic trailer.
